07-005/04 2004 MAZDA3 - A/C POOR PERFORMANCE

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit A/C poor performance where the vent temperatures remain too warm for customers. The A/C system is also found to be working properly with the proper refrigerant charge and correct adjustment of the air mix, fresh, and mode controls.

The cause may be due to uneven airflow across the evaporator core, creating inefficient cooling.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Make sure the A/C system is determined to be operating correctly

  2. Record radio preset stations.

  3. Set ignition to LOCK position.

  4. Disconnect the battery negative cable for 1 min or more.

  5. Remove side wall on passenger side foot well.

  6. Remove Passenger Junction Box (PJB) according to Workshop Manual (section 09-40 PASSENGER JUNCTION BOX (PJB) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

    NOTE: PJB module configuration does not need to be performed since the same module will be used.

  7. Remove metal bracket.

  8. Disconnect evaporator temperature sensor connector.

  9. Remove evaporator access cover from A/C unit.

    NOTE: Be sure that gray seal remains seated in groove and does not come off.

  10. Install diffuser plates.

    NOTE: Be sure to position the plates properly.

    1. Install top plate first then push up

    2. install bottom plate

  11. Reassemble in reverse order.

  12. Reconnect negative battery cable.

  13. Reprogram radio preset stations and clock.

  14. Verify repair.
