M01-009/99 1999 Protege - COOLANT LEAK AT UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSES

APPLICABLE MODELS

All 1999 Proteges with VINs lower than JM1 BJ22** *0 134481.

DESCRIPTION

Engine coolant leaks may occur at the upper and lower radiator hose mounting points due to insufficient clamp tension. Modified clamps are available to resolve this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Verify customer concern.

  2. Drain engine coolant into clean container for reuse.

  3. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses. Install new hoses with the modified clamps.

    NOTE: For the 1.8L FP engine, reuse the upper and lower radiator hose clamps (engine side). They are not affected by this concern and have not been modified.

  4. Verify the repair by pressurizing the cooling system.
