Symptom and Conditions

The DRIVING INFORMATION SYSTEM (DIS aka Trip Computer) is a feature  
standard on sGT trim vehicles.  It can display the following values: 
-The current fuel economy.                                           
-The average fuel economy.                                           
-The approximate distance you can travel on the available fuel.      
-The average vehicle speed.                                          
                                                                     
For detailed information on using this system, refer to the vehicle  
owner's manaul.                                                      
                                                                     
**The information below outlines the operation of the Trip Computer**

Repair Procedure

PCM                                                                    
-Triggers fuel injector pulse and caluclates Fuel Consumption.         
-Receives Vehicle Speed information from ABS module.                   
-Sends Fuel Consumption and Vehicle Speed information to Instrument    
 Cluster.                                                              
                                                                       
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER                                                     
-Receives Fuel Consumption and Vehicle Speed information from PCM.     
-Receives Fuel amount from Fuel Gauge.                                 
-Calculates and stores the DIS values (as listed above).               
-Sends the DIS values to the Audio Unit.                               
                                                                       
AUDIO UNIT                                                             
INFORMATION DISPLAY                                                    
Receives and displays TRIP COMPUTER values being provided by instrument
cluster.  Although the display is the same for other markets (including
Canada), it knows whether to show Miles & MPH or Kilometers & KMH      
because the instrumentclusters vary for these markets.                 
                                                                       
AUDIO UNIT/PANEL                                                       
Communicates with the information display, controlling if the Clock or 
Trip Computer values are shown.  Communicates with the instrument      
cluster, specifically reseting values for the Trip Computer.

If the customer reports the Driver Information System (DIS aka TRIP    
COMPUTER) is inoperative or no display, check the following:           
                                                                        
 - Verify the DIS is ON:  If the "SAT" and "MEDIA" buttons are held for 5
 or more seconds with the ignition ON, "DIS OFF" will be displayed on the
 Information Display.  Afterward (likely after disconnecting the battery)
 DIS will not work.  If DIS is OFF, to turn on, perform the following:  
 1. Have ignition in ON position with radio ON.                         
 2. Press and hold "FM/AM" and "CD" buttons for 5 or more seconds.      
 3. Verify "DIS ON" displayed on Information Display.                   
 4. Cycle igntion key OFF and then back ON.                             
 5. Verify operation of Trip Computer.                                  
                                                                        
 -Audio Unit: Verify if any audio accessories were installed.  e.g. There
 are a variety of In-Dash 6-Disc CD Changers (w/ & w/o MP3), where some 
 some have TRIP COMPUTER and some do not.  If the wrong one was installed
 the TRIP COMPUTER will not work.                                       
                                                                        
 -Audio Panel: Try in the WSM section 09-02C ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC AUDIO  
 DIAGNOSTIC ASSIST FUNCTION BUTTON INSPECTION                           
                                                                        
 -Speedomer/Instrument Cluster                                          
                                                                        
 - Verify the DIS is ON:  If the "SAT" and "MEDIA" buttons are held for 5
 or more seconds with the ignition ON, "DIS OFF" will be displayed on the
 Information Display.  Afterward (likely after disconnecting the battery)
 DIS will not work.  If DIS is OFF, to turn on, perform the following:  
 1. Have ignition in ON position with radio ON.                         
 2. Press and hold "FM/AM" and "CD" buttons for 5 or more seconds.      
 3. Verify "DIS ON" displayed on Information Display.                   
 4. Cycle igntion key OFF and then back ON.                             
 5. Verify operation of Trip Computer.                                  
                                                                        
 -Audio Unit: Verify if any audio accessories were installed.  e.g. There
